Bio...
I have over 25 years of photographic experience of a diverse range of subjects (music concerts, nature, landscape, architecture, astrophotography, still life and product photography) and over 35 years of experience in computer software programming and marketing. It only makes sense then that I would combine these two backgrounds in the expression of my art.
I seek to create artwork that intrigues the mind, piques the imagination or stirs an emotion by juxtaposing contrasting visual elements, including faces, common objects, buildings and abstract shapes. My raw materials are photographic images and computer pixels reproduced on archival-quality papers with archival pigment-based inks.
My artistic process usually begins by visualizing an image and then imagining a way to create that image within the medium of photography and computer graphics. In some cases, I will make sketches to clarify my concept. Then the image elements are either discovered or staged in a studio, photographed and transferred to a computer; or created entirely within the computer or a combination. The computer is therefore used as both a darkroom and a canvas for creating compositions from the raw photographic or computer graphic materials. I think of what I do as creating photo-based art, not digital photography.
I believe that images need an emotional tie to the observer. Therefore, I frequently include people or the affect of people in my images. Faces, buildings, machines, man-made artifacts and handicrafts are common elements in my work, along with abstract shapes and patterns.
